Global warming is the biggest problem facing the world today. Animal and chicken waste release methane into the air and adds to the pollutants in the air. The chicken farmer has the responsibility to make his chicken coop more eco friendly.

Waste from backyard chicken can be made into organic fertilizer which can be used in your garden. This will help make your garden yield healthier and bigger vegetables. It is better to use than other fertilizers made from chemicals and other materials because it is natural and safer.

Gather the soiled straw under your chicken coop into a container. Mix this with food and vegetables that you no longer use to make compost. After this is made into compost, you can already use this to fertilize your garden.

Methane is a biogas and is a good fuel source. Chicken waste is the better to use than other chicken waste for this.

There are many things you can do to help the environment. Making your chicken coop eco friendly is just one of them but will have a big impact in its conservation.

There are several things you must know before you start building your own chicken coop. First off, you need a good chicken house plan. Choosing from various chicken coop plans will be your very first step to creating a great chicken coop. This will be your very own guide in setting up an ideal coop in no time.

Here are the 2 most essential guides to creating a chicken coop:

1. Safety first.

When creating a chicken coop, bear in mind that design is but secondary and that your top most consideration for your chicken coop is your chicken’s safety. It should be created in a way that predators and harmful elements cannot penetrate within the chicken coop.

First, have your chicken house face sunlight, so that in cold season it will easily dry, and moisture will not be locked in to allow pervading bacteria that carry diseases among chickens. We know that moisture can cause bacteria and pose major health hazards, so you must consider the location of your chicken coop above all things.

Second, place your chicken coop in a dry and elevated place. This will keep them warm during the winter or cold season and avoid predators lurking around from easily reaching the chickens.

Third, set up a proper lighting system inside your chicken coop. This will warm your chickens when it’s cold. Lighting sources are very affordable and you can easily buy it from a hardware store. Sufficient lighting will keep your chickens heated and warm all night long.

Finally, secure that your wire mesh is properly installed and in place. That way small insect and animals will not get in, thus avoiding your chickens from becoming easy preys to waiting hungry animals.

2. Cleanliness & maintenance

After you have made sure that your chickens are safe and sound, the next thing you must look after is the chicken house cleanliness and maintenance. This will help your chicken coop last longer, and your chickens healthier and more productive.

Since your chicken’s health is of paramount consideration, you would always want to keep the coop clean and dry. It will help alleviate pests and insects from infesting your chicken house thus leaving your chickens healthy and protected from sickness and harmful bacteria.

Allow a little sloping on your coop floors to enable moisture and water from easily draining off as you wash away dirt and grime off the chicken house. Also, water will not create a puddle in the coop floor when you do this.

If your chicken house is made of wood, seal it with insect repellants, it will add more shield and protection for your chickens and their hatchlings.

When you follow these simple starter tips, you are on your way to creating a very good chicken coop and you will be assured with more fresh produce and more money in your pocket.
